Faculty of Clinical Informatics hold virtual Members Conference and first AGM

On 15th December, the Faculty successfully held their second Annual Members Conference and first ever Annual General Meeting to around 170 members.

The free event for members had a range of fantastic speakers, including Professor Sultan Mahmud (Director of Innovation and Integration, Royal Wolverhampton Hospital) discussing a data driven approach to care processes in a large NHS trust, and a lively talk from Ben Goldacre (Director, DataLab) and Chris Bates (Data Scientist and Developer, TPP) on their innovative work on the OpenSafely analytics platform.

There was also a wonderful session from the Associate Network, showcasing some of the important and varied work that our Associate members are undertaking with short ‘in a nutshell’ presentations. We had Mohammed Al-Agil (Senior Developer Analyst, King’s College Hospital) giving an introduction to Natural Language Processing, Anji Kingman (Clinical Outcomes Manager, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust) on Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), and Michael Hosking (Digital Health Consultant) on New Zealand’s border response during COVID-19.

Our scheduled keynote speaker Dame Fiona Caldicott was unfortunately unable to join us, but we were very lucky to have Dr Chris Bunch, an FCI Fellow and Chair of the UK Caldicott Guardian Council, step in for her. Chris gave a brilliant presentation on data sharing during a pandemic, highlighting the areas of rapid response whilst still retaining transparency. Many thanks to Chris for speaking on short notice!

The programme also included 9 different breakout sessions on various professional and special interests, including Artificial Intelligence, Clinical Safety, Primary Care, Pharmacy, Nursing & Midwifery, AHPs and more. These were a great chance for our members to meet others working in similar areas and participate in discussion. Each Chair then had a quickfire 1 minute to feedback on their session – thanks to the Chairs and we look forward to seeing where these groups go next.

Finally, the event contained the first AGM of the Faculty since we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. Many thanks to all who attended, participated and voted – this is a very important process for the Faculty and we will continue to work on making the governance and processes of the Faculty as clear as possible for members.

The Faculty would like to give huge thanks to partners Healthcare Conference UK for their help and running of the the virtual platform, and to the Events Committee for all their organisation pulling this together. A big thanks goes to the Chair’s Tashfeen Kholasi, Anne Marie Cunningham, Tejal Shah and Jonathan Kay for taking us through the day and keeping everything to time! And lastly, thanks goes to all our members for joining and making it such a memorable afternoon!

All slides and recordings are available on the platform for 3 months after the events – watch back here:
