NHS Year of the Digital Profession

In 2022, NHS England and NHS Improvement launched the Year of the Digital Profession. This initiative is committed to building a workforce of informatics experts in health and social care to meet the demands of the sector.

The Year of the Digital Profession will see the NHS launch a five year strategy and roadmap for building a sustainable digital and data workforce, while developing a profession that the workforce deserve. As well as the delivery of targeted campaigns to attract apprentices, graduates and specialist skills in short supply, into the sector.

The Year of the Profession will be promoted sector-wide, across health and social care, to increase the understanding and visibility of the role and will underline the function and value of the digital, data, technology and informatics professions across health and care.

The purpose of the year is to lay the right foundations upon which the professions can grow, by strategically investing in building the capacity and capability of specialist skills, to support organisations to successfully deliver digital transformation
